Guide
Set up #private
Configure your email system so your team can send secure messages and files through StayPrivateMail from their normal business email accounts.
Overview
#private lets your users send secure emails from approved business email addresses. Your email system routes matching messages to StayPrivateMail, with delivery through TLS to supported business inboxes or through Keepd for personal recipients and businesses without TLS.
#private sends it through StayPrivateMail.
Before you start
Before you configure #private, your organisation needs a StayPrivateMail account and customer-facing branding.
2. Add your branding
Add your company name, logo and optional brand colour so customers recognise who the secure message is from.
3. Open the admin portal
Once your account is active, configure email routing from the admin portal.
Go to admin portal →How setup works
Microsoft 365 setup
For Microsoft 365, use the dedicated setup guide. StayPrivateMail can support an automated setup process where admin access is available, or a manual configuration using Exchange routing.
Other email systems
Other email platforms can be configured by creating an equivalent routing rule. The rule should identify messages containing #private in the body and route those messages to StayPrivateMail.
Test the setup
Once routing is configured, send a test message from an approved business email account to an external email address you control. Use a simple test message and, if useful, a non-sensitive test file.
Hello,
This is a test secure message. A sample file is attached for reference.
#private
Test with a personal address to check the Keepd notification and secure access. A TLS-capable business address should receive the message and attachment in its inbox through StayPrivateMail. Check that your mail server routes the message through StayPrivateMail rather than sending a separate copy that bypasses it. Use #private-all to test Keepd access for a business recipient. You can also test a reply from Keepd.
What users do after setup
Once #private is enabled, ordinary users do not need to think about routing or configuration. They simply add #private to the email body when they want to send securely through StayPrivateMail. They can send a message on its own or include files.
